I Love Writing

I love writing a lot. Before getting a laptop, I did my writings with pen and paper, and later with my phone (oh, how many are the messages!🤣). My first laptop suffered a lot. I guess that’s why the laptop crashed a couple of times, before it finally packed up. The guy servicing the laptop got tired of seeing my face. I miss that laptop. A friend of mine complained that I was hitting the keys with so much force, generating loud and annoying clicks.😂 Even after getting a new laptop, I still strike the keys with force. I guess old habits die hard.🤔

I got the love of writing from my Dad. He was not a professional writer in his days, but he kept lots and lots of very interesting diaries. He was also an excellent story teller. He had fun things to say even when the mood in the room was gloomy. Thanks, Dad. I miss you so much! ❤️

Even when I had a speech to deliver extemporaneously, I still put it down in long prose. I ended up delivering long and tiring speeches that almost always went overtime.😢 Although, sometimes I was saved by giving a passionate rendition of my hand-written notes. I was advised on a couple of occasions by well-meaning friends and acquaintances to tone it down. One said that I was verbose. It took me time to realize that the problem I had was that I was writing too much on paper in preparation for the speech. And I go to the podium with my long notes for assurance in case I have stage fright and freeze.😅

PowerPoints. When I was introduced to the world of Microsoft PowerPoints in the university, I carried on with the practice of writing too much on my slides. “Your slides are too crowded”, I heard so often. So, I learnt how to break up crowded slides into more sparsely crowded slides. Then came, “You have too many slides”. Give me a break!🤷‍♂️

To make matters worse, I liked backing up my slides with evidence. I mean word-for-word evidence. So, there were a lot of copying and pasting with the hope of redacting them later. Unfortunately, I don’t usually get much time to redact or edit as there was always newer materials to add, even hours or minutes to the presentation. I got embarrassed a couple of times, when in the middle of the presentation, I realize that I can’t even get up to half of the slides before my time was up. One Prof once said, “Hope you are rounding up soon”. But, I’m just getting into the good stuff, Prof.😭

Well, let’s just say that I love putting words to paper or screen, whichever one is before me. In my secondary school, one of my teachers once said to me, “Eugene, you don’t know how to summarize” Well, I thought then that when I grow up, I will learn to be brief. Well, well, well! It appears that decades later, I’m still learning. 😅

I’m sorry, please, bear with me. All I want to do is write.😂
