Smooth-tongued, sweat lies! (Poetry)

Words like streams of fresh water.

Oratory prowess of a skilled orchestra.

Lips echoes the smoothness of silk.

Audience drawn in an oasis of rapture.

No care of fidelity to truth.

How could lies be told with such finesse?

For years the spell of the speeches held sway in my head.

The gesticulations as though a music director.

It’s like watching the performance of an expert dramatist.

All the fabrics of entertainment on display.

But now, I marvel at the sophistry of the spoken word.

That falsehoods can be couched in brilliant pieces of artistry.

The mendacity of a masterful rhetor.

It took years for me to make the diagnosis.

Like one with Munchausen, the symptoms carefully expressed.

The slick act makes it undetected on exam,

Could ace the polygraph.

Time proved to be the litmus test.

Even lies skilfully crafted like eggshells,

Cracks with time.

Passage of time is the revealer of phoneys.

Lies travel faster than the truth.

Untruth has a multiplier effect,

In geometric proportions.

The snares of falsehoods can be enchanting.

The truth though easy, simple, unencumbered,

Can be slow, unattractive, boring.

Ultimately, the race is not for the swift.

While lies sprints, truth runs marathons.

The truth endures the grind and the toil.

Liars cheat to win, until the truth catches up with them.

In a society of fads and hypes,

Truth is sturdy.

In a time of fast food and sweet delicacies,

Truth is the healthy diet.

In an era of quick gains and wins,

Truth is consolidated wealth.

In an age of flash and glamour,

Truth stays modest.

In an age where people do anything to get ahead,

Truth is the equalizer.

Substance should trump style.

Authenticity over dramatics.

Integrity over flagrancy.

Accuracy over eloquence.

Decency over histrionics.

Honesty over hypocrisy.

Truth lies beneath the veneer of falsehood.

Truth is the colour beneath the cosmetics.

Truth is the substance beneath the exterior.

Truth is the content beneath the cover.

Truth is the taste of the meal with much fragrance.

Truth is the face beneath the mask.

Truth stays when lies fades away.
