Solar powered (poetry)

I came home and I met darkness.

The owners of power have exerted might.

I looked up and there was a cloud of sadness.

Everyone had light but mine was absent.

Evening rest, blown to pieces.

Night came, but eyes no shutter.

Years of toiling, mind no peace.

Play by the rules, man no honour.

Pay your taxes, the Book says.

Clear the bills, rule man echoes.

Set an example, the noble prays.

Contribute your quota, paymaster cries.

Hours turn to days, id became real.

Mornings of hope, nights of despair.

The clock ticks, energy dispel.

Abundance of sunlight, no charge to spare.

What I want, what I need.

Brain slows down, heart beats away.

Time to wait, time to spend.

Save for later, slay for today.

Solar panels of joy, empty pockets of pain.

Freedom of choice, limits of power.

They aren’t robbing me no more, no pain, no gain.

The light doesn’t blink, fully powered by air.

Monopoly of market makes monsters rise.

Array of choices drives prices low.

Life made of choices; we choose we live.

Earth made of colours; we choose we love.
