The Feeling of something New (Poetry)

Fresh leaves sprout from old roots.

New babies delivered from old wombs.

Fresh water spews forth from old rocks.

A new dawn springs from a waning dusk.

A new crescent herald the reappearance of the old moon.

Life is full of the new coming forth from something old.

It brings refreshing delight to worn souls.

A new development from old stories.

A new beginning from an old career.

A new way emerges from old routes.

A new talent cultivated from an old mind.

A new language spoken from an old tongue.

A new dance even from old steps.

We cherish something new; it is called news.

We desire new stories even from old folklore.

We devour new books even from old authors.

We can barely wait for new music even from old lips.

How we rush to try on a new dress and can’t wait to kill the next outing.

Old hands can’t hold back the joy of getting a new phone,

Or that of driving a new car,

Or sleeping in a new house.

Man cherishes something new even if it had a facelift.

Attaining a new status makes us feel special.

Achieving a new career goal makes us elated.

Some cherish a new partner, rekindling an old flame.

Some want a new baby, to feel alive anew.

We long for good in the news and perturbed by bad ones.

We long for that which has not been heard or seen,

Something fresh, new, untouched, unharmed, and novel.

A New Year infuses many with the sense of a new beginning.

An opportunity to start afresh, to make amends, and to go harder at reaching new goals.

The irony is a New Year means a year older, a step closer to old age and demise.

That the years passes by and leaves a trepidation for what lies ahead.

Are we defined by an aging past, or relieved by the prospect of a new tomorrow?

Nonetheless, for man, “Hope springs eternal”.

Hope that a new day, a new week, a new month, or a New Year will offer same prospects as that of new acquisitions.

A new farming season holds the hope of a bounty harvest,

But the farmer needs to till the soil and plant the crops.

A new football season offers hope of a successful title challenge,

But the Clubs need to put in the work.

A new Administration succeeds when those in power live up to their oath of Office.

A new book makes no impact if effort is not made to read it.

A new baby grows well when nurtured with love and care.

A new partnership only thrives when patient sacrifices are made.

A New Year offers hope of new successes, wins and gains,

But it calls for hard work, prudent investments, and wise decisions.

The feeling of something new is ephemeral,

But the gains of renewed knowledge, industry and enterprise can be long-lasting.
